Default Brake Piston backed out too far

Hello, I am pretty new to Audi's but I have a 2004 A4 Quattro and was trying to replace the rear brake pads. I noticed the notches on the piston so i new i had to turn them in so I used needle nose pliers and got the piston almost all the way in but not far enough. I couldnt get the piston to go in the last 1/4 in. so I looked on the forums where I got false info cause I read to turn the piston counterclockwise and now the piston came all the way out and is kinda hanging. Its not out of the boot but it definately came out of the threads that its screws into. Is this hard to get back in and fix. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Sorry for the long story.

just screw it back in
if you lift the boot it might be easier
