Default Brake Light problems + ABS

Hey guys,

I have searched in many forums and still can not solve my problem...

What would cause my brake lights to stay on only when the key is in the ignition. My red "Brake" dash light is flashing and my ABS light is permanently lit.

I tried to replace my brake light switch and that had no effect and even tried to clear my ECU by leaving my battery unhooked for about an hour. The lights will work if i press my brake pedal when the key isn't in the ignition. but as soon as i put the key in and turn it to the "on" position the brake lights turn on and stay lit.

please help if possible!

Thanks,
Patrick

Can you retrieve codes with a VAG COM?? I would have thought the Brake light switch would have done it.

I think I may have figured out the problem, it turns out my speedometer isn't working either, could my wheel speed sensors, or brake sensors be fried? II remember driving through a very deep puddle before it happened i hope thats it.

Your ABS sensor could be... or your ESP. Before you start changing sensors try to get the car scanned for codes, that will give you a better idea of what's wrong.

Ah yeah, you know what it ended up being? they initially said that it was my ECM, but when it happened again it ended up being a faulty ground wire in my fuse box which had to be replaced. after that repair, i have yet to encounter the problem again
