APR stage 1+

APR stage 1+
I'm stage 1 and have been debating weather or not to go 1+. Some people say it's like getting chipped all over again. If so, there's nothing to think about. But others say it's a waste of money. Thanks for all the help.

What a coincidence - just installed the injectors last night, and popped out at lunch to get reflashed. I went driving all over, from stop and go to highway and everything in between and it definitely reminded me of the difference when I originally went from stock to chipped. I can feel the addtional torque at all RPMs. I've had to adopt a softer touch on the gas pedal in town - pressing on it like I did before overshoots my target speed and shift points. I go up some really steep hills, one in particular I go on often used to require third gear but now I cruise up with no problems in fourth.
I say go for it! I got my injectors at ecodetuning for $399 total cost, and the reflash was free. Good value for the money

Having made the mistake of doing 1, then 1+.... I then skipped K04 and went to Stage 3+.
All I can say is that if you are satisfied with your current setup, you will notice a difference with 1+. Worth it? Only if you swear on a stack of bibles that you won't want more. Which means, don't ever ride in a big turbo car, or get your azz handed to you by one. You'll then realize that stock is uber slow, 1 is slow, and 1+ is sorta slow.
Most people with 1 or 1+ become bored and disenchanted when a mini-van still can beat them.
Nonetheless, 1+ is an improvement enough over 1 to go for it.

I would have to agree in principle. Personally, I'm not ever planning on going BT (want to maintain factory driveability and durability), but who knows may go K04 at some point in the future. In the meantime, I'm having way more than $400 worth of fun with my stage 1+ :-)

Just don't use driveability and durability as an excuse, lol. Good kits like APR retain both. Pushing home-brew kits with untested tunes are where the trouble starts. It's an incorrect misconception that good BT kits lose all the reliability.
Since plug-and-playing the APR Stage 3+ kit, I've not had one single problem, not had to tweak anything (although I do to get more out of it), the car gets better highway gas mileage, and performs just like it did stock in normal city driving.
Anyone not getting a good BT kit these days needs to use cost as the determining factor. They can get too pricey for all the required add-ons. But they are reliable, driveable, and faaaaaaaaast.
It's hard to understand that a 1+ 1.8t is about what the B7 2.0t's are putting out stock. Add a chip to a 2.0t and they are faster again. That just puts it in perspective, because the 1.8t B6 with a 1+ upgrade is still not that quick of a car. But it is WAY better than stock.

I'm sure the 1+ will have smoother power deliverance than that of a K04. For what your goals are and what your budgets looking like for upcoming events, I say do the +1 and call it a freaking day.... but go BT next week. Like bustanut said, BT kits are only unrelible if they're half-assed, but the APR Stage III+ is tried and true for great power output and DD reliabiltiy. Its just a matter if we got $5,300 for the hardware and ECU, plus supporting mods. However, if you do decide to go BT later, bite the bullet and sell the software and injectors for a small loss like I am.
How you drive the B6 is smooth but in the long run you'll still need to upgrade your clutch. Keep that in mind.
