Default Advice on Purchase

I am a gear head and my wife not so much so I have talked her into looking at some older (2000-2006 in price range) Audi's and Bimmers. She has found a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro 6 speed car she likes but it has some miles on it (160k). The car is super clean and looks well taken care of, should I look into it or run from it because of the miles? Are they easy for a DIY person to work on and are they expensive if you do it yourself? What problems do these cars have? I am assuming it has the 3.0 because it is a 6 speed but I'm not real familiar with these cars yet. thanks

the 1.8t also came in 6 speed. check the service records of when the T-belt and water pump were replaced. as long as that was changed and the oil was changed regularly it might be worth looking at.

depends how you look at easy for DIY fix projects. if you're coming from say a civic to this car and never worked on a german car before, all i can say is take your time then. there is so much more stuff packed under the hood that some jobs require patients.

Thanks for the reply. I have worked on the Cadillac V8's so I may be ok and I have worked on VW VR6 cars as well. I can get the car for 5500 so it looks like it's worth it.

The car is a 3.0 car with the sport package.

Have you considered any slightly newer models under a Certified Pre-Owned warranty? This takes the worry out of the mechanical work.

Where are you from? That price seems a bit high
