ABS control module??

ABS control module??
Does anyone know why the 00283 ABS wheel speed sensor front left: G47 open circuit / short with power and 00597 wheel speed impulse deviation intermittent codes appear?
I had the left ABS sensor replaced in my 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro, but my ESP and ABS lights remain on. The guy that looked at it thinks I need a new ABS control module. Is there any chance that I do not need to spend $900 at the dealer for the module? The only difference I notice when driving is braking is not as pleasant as it used to be prior to the appearance of the ABS and ESP lights.
If anyone has the slightest clue on how to solve this problem, please reply to my post. Thanks!

It could be the speed sensor ring inside the wheel, the ring the sensor LOOKS at. Which ever side your getting the code on take that wheel off pull the sensor out and spin the axle while looking in slot for wheel sensor it could possibly be a bent tone ring or it could even be broken. If you are NOT moving the car and you clear the codes, does the light pop RIGHT back on? Or does it only come back on when moving?
If it comes right back on, I would venture to say that it's either bad wiring from the ABS module to the sensor, or the ABS module itself. I would however, check the speed sensor ring first as well.
IF you've recently changed your battery or disconnected power, the ESP light will remain on until you drive completely straight for half a block or so and then reset itself.
The key to diagnosing this is: If you clear the codes with the car off, but key on, not moving, and the codes come RIGHT back on, it's either the module or wiring pinched...would need more information as to when it happened, when it came on etc...
You can have your module rebuilt for around $200.....if I remember right.

Hey,
I have been meaning to thank you for your ABS module advice. I finally got that problem fixed today and it was $240, not bad for an Audi. I wanted to ask if know you anything about power steering pumps going bad. My A4 3.0 Quattro is now less fun to drive with this problem. Despite the shitty noise, do you know how long you can remain driving without making the power steering worse?
Thanks again,
Julia
