About to buy an 02 1.8t ( need opinion )
There is a 2002 Audi A4 1.8t quattro for sale and I want it because it has a good maintenance record, with receipts and everything and we know how Audi's and especially 1.8t's are needed to be kept up on maintenance. It has 170,000 miles on it. Timimg belt, water pump, thermostat, and all timing components replaced along with the accessory belt tensioner and belt. Within the recent year he have done a tune up with plugs, air filter and cabin air filter. Hes have all the paper work for those items. Runs G12 coolant which you'd be surprised how many Audi's Ive looked at and find that there is green auto zone coolant in them. He runs Total Quartz 9000 5w40 full synthetic oil one of the few oils you can buy with the Audi specifications 502.00/505.00. Changes every 5,000 miles and he says it you wont have to add a ounce of oil between oil changes and stated that he ONLY uses Audi specified fluids in it. That being said he wants $5300 for it (All ready talked him down from 6,000 which was obvious a high price). Does that sound like a decent price for all those miles? Ill definitely pay more for all the maintenance proof but even with that is that a little high or about right? Thanks for your help

I'm killing myself thinking about this. I need some assurance or anyone's personal opinion. I absolutely love the look of the b6 Audi's and its impossible to go back to a b5 now. And its super hard to find anyone that has maintenance records like this guy has.

Yeah if you honestly think the car is that well maintained and the guy is honest about the record and you have the money, I'd say go for it.
I'll leave you with this: If you are not in a good state financially, don't do it. There will most likely be repairs...and any repairs are costly repairs on this car. My 02 1.8t has 135K on it now, and I've had it since 105K. It's been a good car over the past two years now that I've had it, but a few repairs have been quite costly...Just an FYI.

I bought it this morning. On the 60 mile trip home it drove perfectly. The seller was a good guy and was really good on his maintenances so hopefully I have some good luck with the car. Definitely an upgrade from the 96 2.8

I have 203k on my "signature" A6 and 94k on my daughter's 2003 A4 3.0 MT6. Overall they have been reliable cars. The A6 needed an alternator and a clutch/flywheel before 100k and I just replaced the cats. The cats on the A4 were replaced under warranty at 7k.
Regards your purchase, all the service records and maintenance records are a good sign. The car was well cared for and should be in top shape. That does not preclude things failing due to the wear and tear of high mileage. Some of that may be cheap to fix, some expensive. Tme will tell. Good luck.
