A4 Ignition Problem
A4 2001 2.0 Petrol Multitronic.
I am have an intermittant ignition problem with my A4, basically when the key is inserted the car cpu cycles through the startup process then when I turn the key absolutely nothing happens, not even a click from the engine, the dash light go out . I have got to keep trying to start for approx 10 minutes then there will be a cough and I got to put some gas before it starts.
When it starts everything runs just fine ?
The temperature guage works on the dash on and off so I think the sensor needs replacing .
It sounds like some kind of electrical / grounding problem to me but Im no expert . Has anyone heard of this problem or experienced similar , please HELP ! Its driving me nuts

When I stop for gas, I turn the key to shut it off then turn it back so I can listen to some music while they fill it (full serve in NJ only). After it's all done I sometimes forget I can't just turn the key to start and get her running. I have to turn it all the way off again then all the way to start to do it. I don't know if that's what you're doing but I thought I would throw it out there.

does the Audi lock ok with the keyfob?
sounds to me like the imobliser not comming off all the time,
if the side repeater lights flash on the car when its not starting its that,
re coding the key is eas and in the handbook,
good luck

Yeh seems to lock fine with the keyfob although I havent checked the sidelights when its having the problem, will do next time . Thought of the immobiliser too but not sure.
I was wondering if it could be the cooling temperature sensor messing with the cpu seems to do it when the car is warm ?
