A4 (2005) 1.8T serivice/maint. questions
Hi, I've had a 2005 1.8T for the last 6 months and I love it. The car is a 2005 model with 52K on the clock and I got it at 46K with a CPO warranty.
(1) does DYI or non-dealer service for 55K void the CPO warranty on this car or on Audis in general? The Audi dealer quoted close to $1K for the 55K service and it doesn't look like such a complex job.
(2) is there a way to pull codes on this car?
(3) this is as a follow-up of (2) above -- a few weeks ago I had the exclamation sign indicator come on (which based on the manual is the one controlling the ABS and electronic stabilization of braking/etc.) but now I have a right rear light message on (I think the bulb is out) and the other went away. I'd like to be able to see a list of codes on the car and track them down.
(4) this ABS/electronic stabilization I researched and found out it might be a parking brake sensor or something to that extent; the dealer quoted $150-200 to change it -- is there more info on it?
(5) finally (phew) where would I be able to find the rear light bulb (I'd rather do that myself to save $ at the dealership and I found instructions on it).
Many, many thanks!

the bulb you could get at any store that sells automotive products, just pull your old one out and show it to the clerk theyll do the rest . as for the codes as soon as you do the bulb youll see w/e previous codes you had.

I have a cpo car so I should be able to help. Doing your own service will not void the warranty, just be sure to keep receipts for parts/oil in case there is ever a dispute that a lack of service is the cause of equipment failure.
Go to autozone and get them to read your codes, they'll do it for free but they won't clear them. You can rent or buy a code reader for $150, if you rent it they refund the money when you return.

That's insanely expensive for a 50k service. I bought my car at 45k miles and went in at just over 50k for my service. Of course they were ****** and charged me for the service (it would be free if it were below 50k). Anyway, it was nowhere near that expensive. I might have been $400 or so but probably less than that. You need to get a list of what they're going to be doing because that's a lot of money for a routine service. I have to think they're trying to do something extra they don't have to and earn some extra dough.

I think it depends on the area that you're getting this done. The two Audi dealers in Boston / Massachusetts are basically rip-offs (big time).
I'll get a full quote from them on the service but as of right now I can see it ending up $$$ (I had the car in for a free check-up and one light indicator and they gave me that feeling along with the quote for the service).

Regarding the brake light. I've had that happen, but the bulb isn't really burnt out. If yours isn't do what I did. I took off the light and cleaned some of the carbon off the housing where the bulb contacts the assembly. Use fine sand paper or an emory board (don't tell the lady friend)...You can access the rear bulbs through a screw in the trunk. You have to take the assembly completely out of the car. About a five minute job really...

My dealer quoted me about $300 for my 55K service on my 2005 1.8t CPO . You should check around . Your extended warranty will not be void as long as you can prove that all the recommended service was performed, so hang on to the records if you get it done elsewhere.
