Default 2002 a4 3.0 ashtray trouble

Fixed one problem and caused another (gee, that never happens). The ashtray in the car had some coins fall behind the sliding lid - gotta believe 9 of 10 owners have done this. Anyway, I got the coins out (think screwdriver and sticky tack from my 10 year old). Now of course, the lid won't stay closed and I am quite sure I broke the pieces on the lid that do that function. I think I have to now take the shrouding off that's around the center console to put in another one (searching for one as we speak). Has anyone done this and do you have any instructions? I see two forward plugs that probably hide screws... anything else I should be wary of? Thanks everybody!

If you're trying to remove the ash tray you need to pull the radio (using special removal keys) then push the a/c control head out of the way. Once those are out a couple screws and a good push will pop out the ash tray, which is what you should have done to take out the coins.

Yeah I have the same problem. Used the ashtray to keep coins, but some of them wind up behind. And so it won't open all the way.

If you took all the coins out and the ashtray still won't close, chances are there's still something back there... do what Auditech recommends and you'll see.
