1.8t vs 3.0. stock.
#12
Our cars are more reliable missy, 3.0s are torquey on their stock form and perform well under harsh conditions. That being said, when they break they break, the most common problem is the cam timing adjuster, is on the rear of the banks, goes depending on how bad of a driver you are (how much you beat the car), and is about 600 bucks part, plus labor.
As far as is being more reliable.....meh. The 3.0L requires less maintenance, but when it does break, the repair bill is much larger than a 1.8T.

as far as speed goes for the price u pay for the 3.0 versus the 1.8 u could chip the 1.8 for 3 to 5 bills and get the same amount of power outta your 1.8 as you would the 3.0. The 3.0 will have a few more nice little add ons in the interior as heated seats and all. Other then that its all about quattro.
I take it the cold weather package was standard equipment on 3.0 A4s? (My 1.8T has heated seats, and to be honest, I kinda thought they all did, but maybe it's just a common option here in the frozen north - I live in Minnesota.)

Cam adjusters don't go out on a 3.0L, and they are on front on that engine. Its a different design than the other motors, it has 4 seperate tensioners built into the cam pulleys, thats that chattering noise you hear when you first start it up, only happens on 3.0L's.

At least we don't have the first models that chewed the cam lobes.
