Default 06 A4 3.0 Cabriolet Quattro Wheels and Tires

(Repeat of what I posted in the Tire Thread, for those of you who don't read those threads)

So I finally got my new to me car sent back for some clean-up work promised at point of sale, and now that they are done, I have time to do some further tinkering, like taking a look at why the gas mileage isn't tracking right, among other things.

Here's what I find:

Front Tires: 235/40ZR18 91W Pirelli Zero Nero M+S
Right Rear: 235/40R18 91V Triangle Talon TR968
Left Rear: 235/40R18 95H Nankang Sonar Ultra Sport NS-II M+S
Spare: 235/40ZR18 95V Continental Sport Contact II

Oh, brother. No wonder, right?

So I did some real recon and research today, and although the dealer will sell me 4 Continental TS790's with 17 inch wheels for 2300.00 (not mounted), I looked a lot further and found a much better deal for a better tire.

5 Michelin Pilot Exalto All Seasons 235/45R17 w/17 inch wheels mounted/balanced and out the door for 1899.95 after taxes. With an instant 40.00 rebate on either the tires or the wheels, if I recall correctly.

I'll let them keep the 18's and mismatched tires, I guess. Thought about keeping the tires and buying 3 more Pirelli's, but after research, not only are the Exalto's better all-weather summer tires than Pirelli's, but they are a lot better than Continental TS790's AND Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 and LM-60's in the winter, based on reviews with multiple quattro drivers.

And that, my friends, is something I can deal with. So with any luck, she'll be outfitted with the new tires on the stock wheels next Tuesday. Then, maybe I can get some real mpg data, AND the speedo will be more accurate.

See y'all on the flip side....

Did you do a comparo of the tire OD relative to the OEM size of 215/55X16? That could also give you mileage readings that don't satisfy you. Our car doesn't do that well on local driving, but my wife is the DD and she's a heavy off the line accelerator where I tend to be a bit more conservative. She sle does almost 100% around town, stop lights, corners, etc. when I'm driving it we're usually on trips with plenty of highway and IIRC I see mid to upper 20's.
