Default '02 A4 3.0L 80k Price too high?

I've been eying up this '02 A4 for a bit now, and I'm really tempted to bite the bullet and get it. It's a...

-3.0L, which is fine for me since I don't plan on doing any mods really.
-It has just under 80k miles.
-Navigation with the color pictogram on the dash
-Bose sound
-Power/Memory driver seat, power passenger seat
-Steering Wheel shifters
-I believe 17" alloys
-Heated front AND rear seats
-6 disc in dash cd
-Automatic/tiptronic
-Quattro

I'm sure there's plenty more than I'm missing. The car seems loaded with just about everything. The interior and exterior are in GREAT shape. No tears in the leather or chips on the paint.

They were originally asking 10,950$, but they've had it on the lot for just over a month now and dropped the price to 9,450$. I haven't taken it in to Audi to have them do a once over yet, but I'm just wondering if this is a pretty decent going-rate for this car now days. I live up in Minnesota, and Audis are quite popular up here with the AWD. They only have a couple service records from work they had done to the car, and I'm assuming the timing belt/water pump service has not been done yet. I haven't run a carfax on it yet either, so if anyone has an unlimited carfax check still and wouldn't mind helping out, I'd really appreciate that as well!

Here's the link to the craigslist post with pictures. Any info or advice would be appreciated!

Here ya go...

No Accidents
3 owner car

Sorry for the formatting.......cut and paste.

You'll need to do a Timing Belt change as soon as you get it so maybe you can talk them down another $1000 or so.....IF it has not been changed already.

I just purchased the same year and color car with Black interior - only mine has about 63K Kms (About 39K Miles) - They guy never drove it ! Good luck!

Cheers

Oh wow, thanks a million for that carfax check! It looks like it could indeed be a pretty good deal.

I love the color blue for the vehicle. I'd probably love it even more if it had black leather interior with only 39k miles on it, but still, heh. If you don't mind me asking, what was the price tag like for your '02 with only 39k miles?

I'm going to try and take it in to the dealer pretty soon here and see what they come up with. I found a killer deal on an '02 A6 that I was going to buy as well, took it in to the dealer before I signed the paperwork, had it come back with a 5,500$+ estimated repair bill. Ouch. Needless to say, I didn't buy it and I am now in the habit of getting any used vehicle I'm looking at buying taken in to the dealer to have them do a once over.

i think it's a pretty good deal.

just know that with that car, the tb and pump are going to run you about $2000 for the service and you're going to have to do it very soon if the car's at 80k.

just keep that in mind. if you can deal with that, then welcome to the 3.0 minority.

You're also going to be owner No# 4. That can sometimes be a dangerous ground when it comes to a used car. Owner 1# had money and paid for maintenance. Owner #2 Happy as $hit he finally got an Audi he could afford, only to realize he couldn't afford or did not want to spend the $ maintaining it. Owner #3 realized the shortcomings on maintenance owner no#2 had and realized he possibly bit off more than he can chew. Owner #4?.....
Definitely have it looked over by audi. Pay real close attention for any shoddy body work. Good luck.

I can't afford an Audi either. Well, at first. Once I accepted Ramen Noodles into my regular diet however, money has since freed up... It all boils down to whether I wanted to own the best car on the road (Audi, duh), or eat expensive food. Food is food, but driving is my life.

Snap. 2g's for timing belt and water pump on this car still? Damn, was hoping the price would have come down a bit by now.

I'm trying to work around my finances right now to see if I can actually afford this bad boy now. I have the cash to pay for the car in full as well as the timing belt, but I'm pretty skeptical to drain my checking and savings accounts leaving me with very little to nothing to fall back on.

If I'm able to work around some of my finances and free up a little extra cash leaving me with a little backup in case my job goes even further south, I'll definitely be taking it in to Audi.

I just can't go back to FWD or RWD. Damn this pride of mine

I hear you, welcome to the world of Quattro.

The timing belt can wait, just have it looked at. If its about to snap, its about to snap. But if it's okay, you may be able to milk it a little longer to save up a little more to fall back on. Depending on where you go, the 1.8T timing belt is $600-$900 ($900 being the stealership). Maybe the 3.slow is just more expensive, I don't know. I know ECS sells two kits, you'd probably want to go with the $650 one, but they offer the belt replacement kit for $350 with new rollers and the such. The $650 one has the water pump and is the most complete.

http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...ategory=Timing

That'll take you right to the page for timing belts for your (hopefully) new car. ECS recommends every 60K on a performance vehicle, i.e. running modified. As I said, have it looked at. There's no need for every 60K if you have another 20-30K out of the belt.
