so i take it you do have cvt.
from what ive read from other forum people is that its about an 8,000 dollar job to fix once it does go out since.

if you want stories of what might happen to you id read that link, but ill warn you, your gunna hate it.
options at this point would be to take it till it breaks, then replace or cut your losses and try to find a manual transmisson or a quattro

I paid $13k for a 2003 A4 3.0Q with MT6 in July 2008, 69k miles. I felt it was a good deal -- I bought it from the original owner and he gave me all the service records. It's having the catalytic converters replaced under warranty next week at 79.9K miles, but otherwise it's been a wonderful car. Much better interior than the 1.8Ts we looked at and rides solid, shifts great. No plans to mod anyway as it belongs to my 17 year old daughter and it goes more than fast enough stock. At the time, 2003-04 versions of this car were selling for $15-18k.
