When people only think of it as a grandma car... until they get in it.

I've said it before and I feel I need to say it again (at the risk of jinxing myself) - I keep hearing over and over again that things go wrong all the time with our cars, and in my 17 months of ownership the only thing I've done to my car is put gas in and oil changes. No problems whatsoever. Judging from everyone else's experience, my luck should run out shortly.

General maintenance can be a pain. But it does seem like the more I remove to do maintenace on, the more I find wrong.
But thats probably got something to do with the 176k on the odometer!

Yep, and I'm not at all happy about it. The car's feeling it's age. This is my first car, and I wish I had waited a bit longer and found something lower mileage. I've put a fair amount of money into the car thus far, and I'm afraid to do things like performance chipping or custom interior because the car could die any time.
I want to get a different B5, and at the same time, I want to refurbish this one. Complete overhaul, put a nice 000,000 on the odometer. But that's lots of money.

When your monthly maintanence bills are double what your payments on a new KIA would have been.... and you are still glad your not driving the KIA
