Default Yet another effin trip to Audi....

my saga with my car continues....
inspection is a month away and I have the ABS and Brake light on in my car. I'm pretty sure the reason is from when I turned the key to adjust the wheels when the sensors were disconnected while I was doing my suspension work. Didn't have the light before, had the light as soon as i finished the job.

That was about 2 months ago.

I finally get around to taking it in to get the codes cleared and this is what they hit me with:

"Car has stored codes for right front, left front and right rear ABS Sensor ASSY Approx. $1250 less diagnostic charge"

I want to call shenanigans, I know I won't pass inspection with the lights on.
At the same time I don't want to drop $1300 just because they say so.

Any thoughts on my issue, any suggestions????? My wife is at the end of her rope with my car......I need to convince her that it's not that big a deal.

I called the dealer back and once again left on hold for 30 minutes.....the *** hat in charge couldn't tell me if it was the module or the ABS wheel speed sensors. I guess I 'll have to get a second opinion from somewhere else.

well to replace that sensor its going to take like 2 hours per wheel. thats 6-7 hours of labor @ $100-120 an hour...thats the majority of that charge. if you can do it yourself, you can replace those 3 sensors for about $40 each its just a PITA to have to take apart 3 wheels again.

I priced out the abs wheel speed sensors (if in fact that is the issue) and for the front 2 and the rear, it comes to around $450 from ECS. I'm not above doing the work myself, I just wanted the dealer the verify in fact it is the speed sensor and not the ABS module (which I doubt).

I guess I'll be busy again this weekend.

i looked quick on purems.com and they had em for $40. they might not be for your specific car/year but check out their prices before ordering. though normally ecs is very slightly cheaper on most things.

thanks for the heads up. I'm going to go with my gut feeling and replace the speed sensors and hope that it solves the issue.

Would you happen to know if the ABS and Brake light will then clear itself? I'd hate to pay to get it cleared. I guess I could always pull the negative cable off the battery and hope that works.

FYI MJM Autohaus has front ABS wheel speed sensors for $79.95 and rears for $104.95, so I can get everything for under $300 bucks. Even better.

brake light should, not sure about the ABS light. any autozone or pep boys or wherever lets you borrow their scanner for free so you can just clear em on your own.

Just a thought. I dont know what state you live in or how extensive your inspection is but you could just black out the lights in your dash or even take them out.

Ya, I've had my fair share of unpleasant encounters with the dealership.
