Whine on acceleration?

Whine on acceleration?
Over the last week I have been noticing a whine coming from the engine of my 2001 A4 1.8T. This does not sound like the high pitch whine of the turbo I am use to hearing. The best way to describe it, is it almost sounds like that whine you get in some cars when you turn the wheels to lock and you can hear the power steering pump whine a bit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Someone did a ninja-swap when you weren't looking, and replaced your turbocharger with a supercharger.
OR, perhaps you've got a power steering fluid leak, and it is your power steering pump. OR the engine may be complaining about the automatic transmission.

I hope not. The automatic transmission is actually a good thing when the car is driven 90% of the time by the wife.
Thanks for the information too. Its very appreciated.

If it gets louder as you climb your powerband there is a chance your fan clutch is going out. My did recently and when i would accelerate it would be like wwwwwhhHHIIIIIIINE especially if my engine speed was beyond 3k rpm's. Check it out because my fan exploded cutting vac hoses hood cables and my ac belt.
