When it rains it pours.... misfire on 1 and 4
Ok -- AEB engine misfiring on cylinder 1 and 4. I pulled and cleaned the plugs and still no dice. the plugs were slightly fouled, but not too bad. I was going to swap the coils around, but the guy at Autozone said that swapping the coil position wouldn't help because the codes from the initial position wouldn't clear for a few days. Any other suggestions as to what to look at that might be causing misfires?
If I have to replace the coilpacks should i do all 4 at once and is one brand better than the other? The current ones are made by Beru. Any upgrades available? ECS the best price?
FYI -- the ignition module was changed about 7 months ago....
Thanks....

You can still swap the coils and drive - even if the old ones don't clear yet, as long as you record what they are, and keep track of what you're doing and which coil is driving which cylinder before and after swapping, you can probably figure it out by comparing any new codes that appear.

the guy at autozone is a retard. he can clear your codes after you swap the coils and then you start your car up again and then read the codes again to see if they moved to the other cylinders

Must be nice to have that. My local Advance Auto won't do it - the guy working there gets officious and self-important and declares that it would be immoral to clear something that the state inspections would flag me for. Thankfully there is local VagCom access.

That's what I've heard from most people. This guy is just too self-important. If it was that vital though, I'd go to one of the other stores (we have about 5 each of AutoZone and Advance in town - this Advance is only about 5 minutes from my house though, so it's my usual haunt). All the more reason to get the spare computer up and running in the garage, with net access and permanent VagCom cable attached

FIXED...........
two new coils, four new plugs, a check valve, and a moderately thinner wallet.........
the bad check valve had been causing it to run lean also. maybe i'm imagining it, but is seems much improved now.
