Default Wheel offset question time

OK guys, looking at a set of wheels - 8" wide with an offset of 42. Have any of you used a wheel with that offset? I'm assuming I may need spacers but I figured I'd tap into the collective experience of our B5 crew and see what you guys have done in the past with this spec, if anything. I am lowered roughly 2.5" on coilovers.

If it's doable I'll pull the trigger in a heartbeat but I want to find out first before making a 9-hour round trip only to find out they're a no-go. TIA for any input.

Just saw your post right now.

That's a pretty high offset but I think you should be able to at least clear the brakes. IIRC some of the offset for stockers were 40+.

How do you plan the wheels to sit? Flush to the fenders or poking?

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day that Devil would ask a question! Truthfully, I have no idea, I'm just wondering what you plan to do with the wheels you have now if you make the switch?

Lol I decided to say screw it and made the trip today. Crappy weather on the way home and I just got back, but the wheels are awesome. I'll figure out the spacer question later - I couldn't pass them up. I was going to test-fit at the seller's house but considering what I found out (along the lines of what kriptonik said), they'll work with minimal or no spacers. Being that my 18s were +38 offset and other OEM wheels are as high as +45 and work fine, and I kept the rolling diameter essentially the same as stock, there should be no issues.

As for the Flik wheels in my sig, those were sold to member tware4021 in December. I liked them a lot but I was ready for a change. If we didn't have tonight's snow forecast I'd have driven home on the new ones.

go with 8.5" with a 38mm offset, no spacers needed.

Had it been an option I wouldve gone with that or even 9" wide but I bought them (barely) used so 8" it is.

yo J, after thinking about it. my wheels are 18x8 +38mm offset. with 225/40 tires, there's about a 5mm space between the tire and spindle top and side. since you have 19s, it'll stick about .5 higher but the 4 extra mm offset may do the trick. if not, you only need like 5mm spacers at most. put those things on this weekend for picks. if jiggleo comes down early on Sat, i'll come and bring my camera too. you finally have manly lips on your wheels hehe

manly lips with et42? as long as the tire size is correct going from 18" to 19" shouldn't make a difference in overall diameter/height clearance.
were your fliks 7.5"? 7.5" et38 should have a little over 10mm more inner clearance than 8" et42 which could be a slight problem.. stock celebrations are 7.5" and I think et42, making that ~6mm more inner clearance than your new wheels, and apparently barely clear
just get some 25-30mm spacers all around and you'll be good

I think they'll fit either as-is or with maybe a 5mm spacer. Gonna test fit once the snow stops. Can't wait to run them.

And no 30mm spacers Aledelic lol - not gonna do the stretch n poke with the roads around here. I compress the suspension way too often for that.
