Wheel Bearing but no Noise?
Went to get my 01 S4 inspected and it did not pass. They said both front wheel bearings were bad and one was "very loose". I've replaced wheel bearings before but usually they make a lot of noise. There is no kind of noise at all. Is it possible that they are bad or can it be something else?

Jack up the car and shake the wheels. That's how they check for them. If the wheel shakes, it is likely a wheel bearing but you could have bad control arms or tie rod ends so be sure to verify that they're ok.

Chances are the bearings are bad but have started failing recently. I'd bet they are making a little noise but not enough to hear over road/wind/tire noise. As time passes I'm sure they'll get louder as they wear even more.

I remember it being like that about a year ago when i had it jacked up. It didn't make noise then so i thought it might be normal for it to be like that. Obviously it's not. Definitely no noise at all though. I'll check it out later when i pick the car up.
