the trip computer said i used to get between 14-17 (obviously depending on how I drive) with my 2.8 30v but i put in a new timing new serp belt new valve and cam seal gasket and a new intake and the computer says im getting between 22-24 now luckly I had a warranty for everything but the intake and timing so an extra $150 got me close to 10 mpg more (all city driving)

For the best mpg calculation I fill up the tank until it clicks and then set the trip counter to zero. The next time I get gas I do the same thing and then look at the exact amount of gallons on the pump (including past the decimal point). Last, I divide the amount of miles by the amount of gas.
Mine's a 1.8T with just a K&N filter. I usually get between 30-32 mpg (80% hwy, 20% city)

the 2.8 is great on the highway, and alright in the city. i drove from detroit to phoenix with my avant completely filled (seats down and everything) and managed 26 mpg. for the cities id say i get low 20s, its just hard to not drive fast in the city.

Damn, when I moved from NY to Kansas, I only averaged about 26-27 MPG highway, (using the miles divided by actual fuel consumption method). Of course, cruising at 3700-4000 RPM probably isn't the best for saving fuel.

Recently changed out both front O2 sensors on my car. Used to get 320 to a tank highway if I was luck and like 260 in the city. Now I've taken two trips and I hit 320 and still have a 1/4 tank left.
I did the math and it's like 27.7 if I recall. This is in a tiptronic S4. Go figure. I can't believe I'm getting better mileage than most of the 2.8 owners. Wow! I thought about getting a 2.8 or 1.8t as a winter/daily driver. Guess i'll go 1.8t since they can get 30+ mpg on the highway.
