Whats everyone opion on the best oil right now?

"German Castrol" is 0w30 European Formula only. Regular Syntec is OK, but the European Formula 0w30 is great.

that is not really a good thing. oil is supposed to turn dark. carbon, VOCs and other contaminates get suspended in it and burn off when the oil gets up to operating temp. that burning of contaminates turns the oil dark. if the oil is not getting black even after 5k+ miles, that means the oil is not getting up to temperature and/or is not cleaning the engine as it should.

Hmm. Oil can be dirty and black yet still retain lubricating properties. When you are changing your oil ever 3-5k miles, it doesnt really matter what brand you use as long as it is fully synthetic and the correct viscosity.

I won't ever use a full synthetic oil again in any engine.
I used Redline synthetic for years in my dirtbike, which needed valve lash adjustment on a regular basis due to weak stock valve springs and valve float. The entire valve train was always bone dry when the valve cover was taken off. After quite some time, I switched to Bel-Ray Thumper, which is a semi-synthetic blend made just for one-cylinder four-strokes. Everytime I removed the valve cover from then on, there was a nice sticky film of oil on every part of the valve train.
It seems to me that a synthetic is so slick, it all runs off the parts after engine shutdown, resulting in dry start-ups. This doesn't seem good even with the impregnation properties of synthetics.
It seems to me you get the best of both worlds with a semi-synthetic: impregnation AND wet-starts.
If anyone has some informed points that contradict this line of thinking, I would definitely like to hear them.
