On dd driven cars, Mobil 1. I'm sure there are other good oils out there, but imo this works great. Ive tried Royal Purple since my fam buys in bulk but found it was too thin for dd cars. Mobil 1 5w-40 year round with a Purator for the a4

German - friggin' - Castrol. It may be rated 0w30 but it's more like a 40 weight.

brad: use a 40 weight in turbo cars (Again, I consider GC an exception because it's not a true 30 weight)

Mobil 1 5w40 and a Mobil 1 filter. When I'm on a budget I use an STP filter. Mobil 1 is awesome though and easy to find. When I first got my car, it made a horrible engine noise in the mornings. After using Mobil 1, the noise went away. Also, at 5000 mi, the oil doesn't even look dark, it looks like teriyaki sauce which is pretty good.

I'm in love with the Royal Purple myself.

that is not really a good thing. oil is supposed to turn dark. carbon, VOCs and other contaminates get suspended in it and burn off when the oil gets up to operating temp. that burning of contaminates turns the oil dark. if the oil is not getting black even after 5k+ miles, that means the oil is not getting up to temperature and/or is not cleaning the engine as it should.
