It is more then that since there is more work to put in a 2 liter crank into a 058 block.

If I buy a 99' b5 a4 1.8t off Craigslist for around 1400$ how would I check if its the 06a block?

It's not, only the AWM is an 06A so it was only available in '01. You could in theory use a MK4 1.8t block because they were all 06A or 06B, but you'll still need a B5 AWM parts car for all the stuff you'll need to swap over. Look into passats too, quite a few get parted out and overlooked.

Are all the connectors and sensors the same on the passats and mk4s? Like for example if i couldnt find a certain sensor or wire on the donor a4 or donor passat can i pull it off a mk4 ? And the 06A can handle more power than the aeb? I'm kinda not sure about what to go with here... An aeb or a awm. Also what year passat has the 06A? 01 also? Sorry for all the questions I'm just really trying to get all the facts straight before I purchase a donor car / motor..
