In what year did the break wear sensors become standard? or was it an option before?

 

I believe 2002 became standard, but most 2001's have them (front). If you're wondering if you have them, just check at the caliper for the electrical connection. If you do have them, it's easy to jump the wires to use a pad that does not have the sensors built in.

My pre-facelift 99 does not have them.

 

98% sure that mine doesnt have them, i chewed up a rotor because i didnt take care of changing my brakes, sensor or not, just listen for that stupid squealing sound
