Default what would you recommend for a intake?

im looking for some personal feedback/suggestions as to what intake you would recommend for me to get. 01 1.8t. Any decent intakes out there for around 150$ that are actually good? i found a k&n 57 series intake for 100$ any feedback on that?

2 things you can do.

Either do the Swiss cheese mod.

VWVortex.com - DIY: Ike's A4 Airbox Mod. Breathe Easy!

Or a custom cone intake.

VWVortex.com - DIY: Cone Intake for $80 Cdn.

MAF stays in the same spot between the turbo inlet pipe and the filter, you just have to figure out a good way to connect the whole setup together. I've got an APR turbo inlet, then the MAF connected directly to that with a hose clamp. Then a silicone coupler connecting the MAF to a 2.5" 180* U-bend with the cone filter on the end of that. Keeps the filter away from the exhaust mani and I can still use the stock intake snorkel. Make sure you don't over-oil the filter or you'll ruin the MAF

do you guys think a after market intake is necessary? im only.hittjng 17psi, i read a few threads saying the stock intake is enough unless you get a bigger turbo.

For performance purposes, that's correct. The stock intake flows more than enough for a K03 even with upgrades. An aftermarket or modified stock intake will make the "cool" noises your car already makes louder: turbo spool, DV noises, etc.

I'm running a K03s as well, doesn't matter. It doesn't flow any more than a K03, its just built slightly different to allow for higher stock boost, which is why 2001+ has 170hp instead of the 150 you'd find on AEB/ATW motors. If you're not planning on going BT eventually, I would save the money for the forge and pick up a 710n DV from a 225 TT instead. They're good up to about 20psi and less than half the price of the forge. Not rebuildable, but if you're not going to go BT you don't need that anyway.

RAI and 034 sell good quality 3" test pipes, but not for < $150. This is one of the few times I tell people to check out eBay. You can get a decent test pipe for < $100. I don't recall if they come with studs, bolts, and gaskets though. I run a 3" ATP test pipe that I got for $90 in the classifieds on the zine, and I love it.

I just took the maf out of the air box, put end into TIP and the other end put cone filter on with clamp. Its directional look for arrow on it. It sounds way better and ive heard with the forge you get better sound too. So im gonna get that.
