The seal is leaking where the cooler meets the engine block, I guess. Drain your oil, remove the filter, remove the coolant lines (pinch), remove the center nut (above the threads where the filter screws on) and it should just pull/twist out. Probably a good idea to replace the cooler too. Eventually the insides will deteriorate and cause an internal coolant/oil leak anyway.

Yeah 12v's have oil coolers. Just got mine replaced. 400 installed. I guess the main reason for them breaking of leaking is due to hitting something. I guess i hit something, my guess snow because i haven't bottomed out in it yet. Knock on wood. The cooler itself is around 300 or so i think. HOpefully you can just fix the seal. Good luck

That sounds sort of insane. ECS shows the oil cooler is $75 for the 30v, and it's probably the same part. Can't be more than an hour of labor so I'd say anything more than $200 is a rip. Schwalbe, that was the problem with your car when we thought the engine detonated? What were the loud clanking noises?

they are pretty cheap if you install it yourself, i believe ecs sells them for either 80 or 120 bucks, i cant remember which. if you can change your oil yourself you can change the oil cooler. if you dont want to replace the whole thing, you can just replace the o-ring that seals the cooler to the block. probably under $3 from a dealer.

Yeah thats what i thought it was. I guess the noises were from the engine running with little to no oil. Luckily nothing internally got damaged. I shut it off before anythign happened to bad. Im getting mine done at a local shop. I guess the mechanic said that it had something to do with the lines coming into it and outa it also on mine, hense the costs being alittle higher. Thank god tho that it wasn't the engine block like i had thought. So its in the shop getting the Oil cooler and exhaust fixed. He mentioned something about the top of the pan, and that it might need another part if it got damaged, Idk i didnt really understand him, when i went in and looked at it, it seemed like just the cooler. Ill know tomorrow after he installs it.

Ok...audi gurus ...correct me if im wrong

I own a 2.8 too... had the same leak and the dealer wouldn't schedule an oil change unless i get it fixed first.. So went to my local mechanic and he found out that there is an O-ring inside the oil cooler that is causing the leak.. Its an easy fix and part is pretty cheap tooo....

Try replacing the ring before buying the cooler itself....Well this is my experience and YMMV.

Good luck
