As recommended a good place to start is the FAQ, once you have the basic idea we'll be happy to answer other questions.
First off I'd make sure everything is working and fix anything that could be damaged by extra power. Then I would do things like chip, suspension, sway bars, shifter and visual mods.
I wouldn't call mods "investments" there are a few mods that might add value to your car but for the most part you won't get much back when you try to sell them on the car. If you keep the car in great condition and mod it in a way that the majority of people like you might get some money back if you ever tried to sell the car.

yea a lil harsh dude, but yea if you have a 1.8 a chip is a must....if moneys not an option go with GIAC if you are on a budget and still want an agressive tune go with speedtuning...and a hfc go with labree...if you have a 2.8....well drop it and make it look sexy with some rims...
