Easiest thing to do? Armor all. Great stuff.
Also, I've heard of Gringots engine bay dressing? Supposed to be good.

Armor-All and Foamy Engine brite! Lol, Just cover the water sensitive things and get too it! Armorall for the covers, hoses and plastics. They look new! My engine looks awesome now! Get a stainless steel brush, and some shop towels. The shop towels work awesome for the thick, dirt/grease ****. Just wipe it off. Finally, get some brake cleaner. Its fast drying and apparently safe on electrical stuff, but I wouldn't spray it right in my alternator.

Brake cleaner is way too harsh to use on anything electrical, it tends to melt the plastic in the connectors. I would stick with an electrical contact cleaner which is a much milder version of brake cleaner.
