Weird wiper problem
Hi all,
I have a weird problem on my A4 avant '96 wiper system. When I 'tap' the wiper handle down for a one-timer, the wiper motor starts and runs for as long as I hold the handle. Whenever I release the handle the wiper motor stops rotating immediately. Asa resultI don't have a parking position. When I put the handle in intermittent mode, the wiper motor rotates almost continuously and I can hear the relay click every second or so.Mostly after awhile the relay seems to freak out and the clicks become more like buzz.
I've dismantled the wipermotorassembly but found nothing strange. I suspect it must be either theswitch in the handle or theintermittent relay. If it's the latter one,how doesthis relate to the'one-timer'. I don't have a diagram soI don't know how this is supposed to work.
Inside the wiper motor there are three separate rings. Is the inner plastic ring with the metal 'tab' related to the parking position of the wipers? And if so, the outer ring consists of a metal ring with a small plastic 'tab'. What purpose does this ring serve?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Weird wiper problem
I had the same kind of problem with mine, turns out the relay burned out. There's nothing wrong with your wiper motor. On those relays there's the standard pins just like every other relay on the planet, then there's an extra one that makes sure your wipers park when you turn them off. Same exact thing happened to me. Cheap fix, the relays are like $20 from the dealer.

RE: Weird wiper problem
Thanks! You guys are right . I dismantled the intermittent relay part no 431955531, and it turned out that the coil couldn't pull the contacts together enough. I might as well replace the relay with a programmable one. Does anyone have experience with this (part no)?
