what kind of oil?

and seafoam is a detergent you can do a similar thing with trans fluid, but if you know so little about cars why did you buy an audi?

not trying to be dickish, but these cars are not cheap, so diy' ing is gonig to make fixing issues cheaper

some 10w-30 stuff. not the right kind, but my dad had some in his garage and said it doesn't really matter (oops)

as for why i bought it, i didn't. my previous car was having problems, my dad saw a good deal for this car pre-owned, so he bought it for me while i was in school. i didn't make the conscious decision to get an audi, and didn't realize i was required to know a lot about cars before driving it. i know, compared to car enthusiasts like you guys i sound moronic, but a car is just transportation to me. i should have exercised more care in maintaining it, obviously.

anyway, the estimate from the dealer for a "sludge buildup repair kit" is $2,884. they also suggest replacing the timing belt for another $1,600 or so, and some other stuff. i asked them to fax the documentation with price breakdown to my office, so i'm waiting for that. any cheaper alternatives?

i would try running seafoam, whole can, or trans fluid through the motor for a day, then change oil, drive for about 500-1000 miles repeat process that way maybe you would get some of the sludge out and be able to see if the car picks up better

where do you live? maybe some other people on here might live near you and help

or you could email me your # and i could try and help walk you through some steps, seeing as i do repairs for a living
