weird engine rattle during moderate acceleration
Hi guys,
So I have this engine rattle on my 02 A4 1.8T thats been getting worse. It happens only during acceleration on the low end, kinda like the engine is lugging (its an automatic). When i hammer down to get the revs up, it goes away or if i accelerate hard from zero, I dont hear it either. Only hear it during low rpm acceleration. Any ideas??

my bad, so its coming from the actual engine??
is there any way you can check to see if theres any codes??
i think if it were a misfire or coilpacks you'd get a check engine light....
good luck, let me know if the plugs make any diff!

My guess is that your camshaft tensioner is going out. That's the mechanical device that holds the cam chain in place. When you accelerate, if there isn't enough tension, it rattles up and down and against the valve cover. Depending on how bad it is, I wouldn't say it's a necessary repair unless it's making that noise all the time.

make sure its comin from the eng.
although the cam chain tensioner is a good posibility too
