Default wanting to buy

hey everyone i'm new here and from Atl Georgia (anyone that lives in Ga that works on there own A4?). My GF wants to purchase a 1997 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo 5 speed with 140k.

the car is pulling the following codes and it runs like crap. The turbo has no pull, the engine has no pull and it stutters
  • p1239
  • p1240
  • p0102
  • p1237

and it has huge amounts of oil at the bottom of it running all over the tranny pan and the oil pan. i cant tell where the leak is coming from but it's certainly wet oil.

also seen a drop of oil hanging off the interior of the throttle body

the guy also drove to meet me without the intake tube that connects from intake box in drivers fender to the throttle body

any suggestions about all that stuff? the guy wants $1800 for it but i'm going to only offer $1500 and will a $1000 bucks be able to fix the car back up?thats all my gf has to spare to fix it *Note that i will be doing all the labor.

well i know the stuttering problem and code P0102 is your MAF sensor.. i just threw that code a few nights ago and my MAF was bad, and without that running right, your car will have almost no power.. it will stutter all over the place and wanna die.. just pick up a used MAF for around 110 bucks that will fix that problem for sure..

bro that thing is probably fucked beyond reasonably priced repair. If you bring it to me in alpharetta I'll look it over for 20 dollars and tell you exactly what it will take to fix.

tcossuto you have a p.m.and for everyone else thanks for the future help and please keep chiming in.

also how much is a diagnostics from an official audi dealership. I've been to autozone but would prefer a dealership cuz the mechanics can tell you face to face with assurance what they feel or know the problem to be

if the turbo is not connected, then yes the turbo would have no pull. if that tube isnt connected, then MAF isnt measuring anything, hence the MAF error. most of those codes can be taken care of by just fixing the intake and making sure theres no leaks. im not sure about the oil part, but you need to figure out where its coming from.

i would offer the guy $1000 cash. this car obviously has not been taken care of, and considering whats wrong with it, and 140k miles, and the fact that your going to have problems in the future due to lack of maintainence, the car isnt worth much more then that.

and without the intake tube hooked up, he woulda been driving with no filter. i would look for a different A4 because this guy obvious does not take care of his car. and like ghost said 1k is enough for a car like that.

ok then so 1500 is too much in everyone opinion. so i will attempt to get him down to 1000. originally wanting 1800 now i'm trying o knock him down to 1k. that's going to be a task but it's possible.

i read somewhere on here where it shows a good site to purchase a rebuild kit.can someone point me back to that thread or a site to purchase the kit from for a decent price. i'm also a diy so no labor cost yayyyy.

did you mean the TIP wasnt on or the piece from the core support to the air box wasnt on?

if the tip wasnt on, then there was no n75 registering, the turbo picked up dirt and is shot by now, no MAF reading. tell him 1000 tops, cause it will need about 1000 in work.

also, imo, dont buy a used MAF. its common on these cars to go bad. Bend over and buy it new from ECS or somewhere along those lines so you know its good for longer then 'whenever'.

here is the part i'm talking about that was missing when he drove the car to meet me. (this is not the actual engine bay) had to hijack it from another thread

yea thats what i thought you meant. that means the entire intake was disconnected and sucking in dirt and salt and anything else thats on the road. no wonder it ran like garbage. he might be pissed if you offer him half of what hes looking for, but explain to him what he did to the car. running it that way can destroy it in minuets and i bet hes been driving with it like that for quite some time. the car is obviously in very bad condition and you should just strait up tell him that, because hes an idiot and didnt take care of it. its now not worth more then $1000. depending on what he broke, you may have to spend a few grand to get it drivable. though you might luck out and only have to spend a few hundred. it all depends on what he broke.
