I agree. I was once told that the purpose of four wheel drive was, "you go as far as you can in two wheel then, put it in four wheel turn around and get the heck out of there"

I can speak personally for the "hit a curb"
sucked bad. first time driving on snow after I got the car. headed to work, about 5 am, about an inch on the roads. the wet slippery snow. car was handling beautifully. got overconfident. trying to make a turn onto a road with a median. started to understeer. me being used to FWD goosed the throttle to try to get the rear end to break loose and rotate around. unfortunately, car acted like RWD and went right into the curb on the median. an EXPENSIVE lesson.
next good snow, found a nice open parking lot and "learned".
