a very sad day for me
i heard knocking in my motor today so i brought it down to a stage 3+ vw gti owner who works at monroe and does side jobs and knows quite a bit about audis...anyways i bring it down and pull it in and pop the hood and he gets close to it and listens...he came up with either something with the timing skipping a tooth or two causing the valves to hit the pistons or a something to do with a rod. I've narrowed it down to either getting another AEB 1.8t engine do a k04 swap while its out and install that then chip that or just rebuild my current engine...any suggestions would be awesome on my next step with this..thanks

oh daym that sucks man. try some lucas injector cleaner. sometimes it helps clean things are helps the knocking. that engine is really low mileage and the price really isn't bad. another alternative is Gary's-U-Pull It in binghamton has weekend engine specials. $100 for a complete engine. mileage of course wouldn't be as good as the one in the link you put up but it'll be much cheaper.

Just a thought, but maybe rebuild it with stronger internals, lifters, ect, then go with a monster turbo, push a million PSI and make a 1000 HP beast!!!
For real though, if you try to go a couple months with a mistimed engine, you going to eventually destroy everything inside the engine (which wouldn't matter if you're replacing it anyway) but you could end up stranded somewhere when you least expect it. If the damage is very minimal right now, you might be able to get away with just changing the Tbelt and puting the timing back in order until you afford the swap. Best of luck to you...

by any chance...do you guys know if a atw 1.8t would work in my car...i found one for cheap and debating on it...its a short block so would i need the intake mani and valve cover off of an atw motor or could i put my AEB valve cover and intake mani on to that
