OK so it's obvious I'm new!
I just got the (cheap) Ebay version of the VAG COM Cable also, no cd included! It did tell me where to go. LOL anyway after downloading everything including the fix for the Vista issue which I'm running on my laptop, I'm getting a "can not find controller" message when I connect to my 97 2.8 12v? Has aftermarket audio gear, could this be the prob? Or am I overlooking something simple? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.PS Emilgevor; Did you get your's working?

I got an eBay cable. The cable ONLY works with vag-com 409.1 for serial cables do not download the USB one. The eBay cables use a special driver to fool the computer into thinking it's a serial. Then you need to buy vag-com for 100$ it's worth it. The free version is limited you can not log readings you can go into measblocks and if u scan something and have more than 2 fault codes it will show u every other one with a description the others will have a faut code but will say register vag-com.

You get what you pay for...
Thanks for the info. I kind of thought that I should just pony up the $100 for the Ross-Tech stuff anyway, well worth the cash if it does what I want it to. I'll try the drivers for the 409.1 serial cables & scrap the USB drivers. Does the Ross-Tech version address the Vista issues as well? Thanks again for the help...

Greg, do you mind providing the link to the "fix" you downloaded for Vista? I didn't know there was one and I just purchased an ebay cable and also had to download the software from ross-tech. I haven't tried it yet because I am waiting for my cable but I'm interested in this Vista fix. Thanks in advance.
