As usual, a list of things wrong with my 01 a4 tip
Well its been a while since I have been on here, but in that time this is whats happened to my car.
Ended up not selling it, and let it sit for a week before swapping the alternator. Changed it, and all was well, till the clicking of a torn drivers cv boot started. Continued to drive, and the slushbox now is shifting harshly when first driven. Was driving home one night late, heard a "pop" followed by a intermittent grinding noise coming from the car. Decide as im driving the transmission is dying and drove it home. Find some piece of ac compressor fell out and was grinding on the pulley. Now, car overheats if driven harder than "grandma" and refuses to cool down. Heat soak when turned off is through the roof. Not sure if this is related, but at the end of the cold season, the heater would refuse to heat at a light unless the car was revved. Core was replaced in nov 09. Cant for the life of me get the radio out, din pullers do no good (and ive pulled it twice before).
So my questions:
Can someone post a picture of an assembled ac compressor? I don't know if I have all the pieces (minus the bolt) so i'm not sure if its fixable.
How the hell do you bleed this thing?!? I can COMPLETELY pull the heater hose you bleed with off, and coolant only trickles out.
The overheating thing is almost gone now that I am missing ac. What would cause this?
Thanks guys!

A peice of ac compressor? I've got to see a pic of this.
The engine cooling issue sounds like either a broken water pump impellar or an air bubble in the lines/heater core.
What? Where?

The return hose for the heater with the little hole in the top, that you have to expose in order to bleed the cooling system. I was told you have to expose that hole till coolant leaks out, but in my case, coolant never comes out, and when I fully disconnect the hose it is only trickling out of the heater return pipe, but the other hose is very hot.
Edit: Let me take a picture of the ac piece

In this order:
Top shot
Bottom shot
Side, where you can see the grinding on the pulley
Last two were how I originally found it, and that pulley goes to the ac compressor

I circled it in green. No its not the pulley itself, because thats still attached (how I have no idea) because the bolt in the picture you posted is missing.

I see now.. Wow. Never seen this happen. It certainly wouldn't have anything to do with your cooling issues, other than the engine would be able to cool easier without the load of the AC on the engine. Sounds like you have a few different things going on here!

Yeah, my main concern is the cooling currently. Ill go out and run the car through a couple times to see if the cooling system reacts differently while under stress now that the AC is missing. On our cars, the climate control is electronically controlled right? If so, I might not be getting the heater core to bleed because its 97 in texas, so the cars still trying to use ac to "cool" the car to 85, instead of just using the heater like I want.
