Default turbo idea, need opinions:

so for people that know their stuff, ive been talking to G-popshop about buying the k04 turbo they rebuild. the wheels are 1mm bigger then the k04-15 so there slightly better. i decided that wasn't enough for me and they told me they offered another upgrade that makes the turbo wheels 3mm bigger then the k04-15 and that the turbo was rated for 250 hp with proper tuning.

they said the k04 file from GIAC would work with it as well, so that would be a free upgrade for me since i already have the k03 file. so i figured with the upgraded turbo, basic k04 file, and the 034 exhaust mani put together, it would be a really nice upgrade compared to the k04-15 and i wouldn't have to go bt.

thoughts?

how much does the manifold cost, because on a k04 size turbo, im not sure the juice would be worth the squeeze.

they should be $325 unless they've increased there prices since then.

its not the racing manifold, its basically looks like a the stock manifold only it has a lot better flow. in eurotuner, they actually recommend the mani. on the stock turbo after an ecu upgrade, and that it helps out a lot, and since im taking that area apart already... may as well.

this is the link for it:

i just basically want to go all out as much as i can without going bt and this seems like the way to do it, im basically asking if this idea has any flaws or if there is a better way to do it.

Gpop shop has changed some things lately. Pricing and all. Go for whichever upgrade you want/can afford, but don't expect the GIAC K04 software upgrade to be free. They will still charge you labor.

that is true, gpopshop has changed a little, but its still a better price then a k04-15 and has turbine and compressor wheels that are 3mm larger. With a rating of 250hp, wouldn't that be about the same as a T3 60 trim turbo?

and yes i know i will be charged labor, but i don't have to pay for the new file, thats why i say that.

If you want to take advantage of the turbo's capabilities you'll want the hammer file (do they still use that?) It's the agressive file of 01 like the J31 for 00 or pc16 for 97-99. Of course that means you'll need the supporting mods like injectors, maf housing, afpr, fmic, etc. If you are just wanting to go with the basic k04 file then there is really no need for the upgraded k04.

yep, ill be going that direction for sure, good to know that maf housing is on that list as well, just thought it was the other 3.

even with the k04 basic, it will be right up by 250 hp, ill bet the hammer setup would be sweet with this turbo.
