Default Turbo failure, diy?

Hey everybody, recently i let a friend borrow my b5 and on its return the turbo wasn't working.

the turbo is a k04 which was installed in 2006.

so two questions; you think my friend had something to do with the failure, or was it age. he hasn't really clearly answered me about this.

secondly, is this something i will be able to replace by myself? i did the timing belt two years ago, but had to borrow tools.

thanks for the help.

OEM K04 or china piece?
You can do the turbo yourself, id say its easier than the timing belt,

i believe OEM, and a follow up question, would it cause issues to replace with a stock turbo? as i am now trying to sell the car.

If you have all the supporting k04 mod it might run a tad funky but wot be tht big a deal. Best bet is to just toss a china k04 on it if your selling it

so, my cat had actually failed. which is awesome..a lot easier/cheaper to replace.
and so i decided i'm keeping the car for the winter so i wont have to drive the wagon thru all the snow we're supposed to get.
