I have a Pre-99 Audi a4 Quattro with triptronic and last night I was driving around with it just fine and has no hard shifts or anything. Then this morning I put it into trip (sport) mode and nothing happens it stays in drive. Does anyone know what would cause this? It has happened a little when it wouldn't let me shift up or down from the counsel but let me use the buttons on the steering while until but it rarely happened usually it works like normal until today.

I think it might be the switch or something. I'm trying to get my hands on a scanner but the guy who has the vag-com i use is out of town, I don't know if it will even show a code either. But if anyone has had this problem or knows what could be wrong that would be great.

 

There is a set of magnets that tell the transmission its in tip mode. More than likely the magnets have been dislodged from their holders. I had this issue and when I opened the shifter cover in the console I found the long magnet stuck to another piece of metal.
