Default Transmission Compatibility

I have searched with no avail. Does anyone know if the transmission in a B5 A4 V6 motor is compatible with a B5 A4 1.8T? I assume not, but I would like to know for sure. Thanks.

it is. and vice versa. 2.8 trans on a 1.8 will just give u longer gears

That sucks. I am interested in finding a trans. for my wifes car, but dont want to pay $1200-$1500. I figured the bolts wouldnt even line up correctly for the two different engines.

Oh, ok. So how would the gearing work? If a V6 is on a 1.8T, what would be the difference, and why? Thanks.

the 2.8 transmission has wider gears, meaning if your crusin at 70mph in 5th gear with a 2.8 transmission the RPMs would be at like 2800. on a 1.8 trans at 70mph you would be at like 3200rpms. the 2.8 is better for fuel efficiency if you drive long distances on the highway.
