After having some problems with the rebuild, I had no reverse grear and a few other issues. Search" transmissiuon help" I had to open the transmission back up. I found what the problem was it had to do with installing the last part in the rebuild the oil supply unit and brake C clutches.. The manual says to use a special allighnment tool, but who has this. I resolved the problem and the transmission works great.

If you are thinking of rebuilding the transmission yourself I can give some good advice on what not to do.

If you need help just send email.

If anyone needs the ZF rebuild manual I have one for sale.

I recently got a 99 A4 Quattro with a bad transmission, then ran across this old posting. I already have a replacement transmission and was wondering if it's common for the torque converter to wear out also? From what I understand from the previous owner they started losing gears. Of course a new TC would be wise but just trying to save money for other things the car may need.
