Transmission 4th gear slip "problem found"
#11
I found the input shaft at a shop In Hayward CA. The shop has thousands of used transmissions. The part was $80.00 and a complete rebuild kit with new clutches was $275.
I will start the rebuild today, and have the shop in Hayward rebuild the torque converter on Monday. The cost to rebuild the torque converter is $245.
Including new fluid I should be at around $800.00 after rebuild.

That's a fact. But it's all the other parts required - driveshaft, front axles, shift mechanism, subframe, mounts, flywheel, clutch etc that add up to a lot.
Then throw in labout, it's not a cheap exercise.

I'm having similar problems with my 2nd gear. Slippage in the low side of gear. I changed the radiator, as well as several other things in the build, so I've changed the tranny fluid. Still there. to be honest i dont know if i would try to re build it myself....

The new reverse gear piston came today. I rebuilt the drum and all the parts will go in the transmission housing today.
The tool in the picture is the only special tool I used in the rebuild, this is to compress the spring cups. There are around 6 spring cups that must be removed to get to some o'rings that need to be replaced.
