thanks for the list of links kendalll. its pointing me in the right direction. the best one is the avant with rebuild motor. definately a primo choice. only downside is the green color. but i guess i could always respray it. so how easy is it to retune a 1.8t. also can my 2.8L exhaust work on the 1.8t? cuz i like the way it sounds.

2.8 and 1.8 parts are not interchangable. for the most part.
in order to get anothing 100 horsepower out of a 2.8 it costs you $5000.
to get another 50-70 horsepower out of a 1.8t it costs 500 bucks, and for $5000 you can pretty much double the horsepower of the car, or more if done right.
if you are looking to mod, 1.8t is the way to go. 2 years ago i had a 97 a4 2.8 non quattro and totaled it as well. im extremely happy with my 1.8tq.

I always just search craigslist for "avant" because that's all i'm interested in for whatever reason. There's likely more sedans out there for cheap. I just saw this one if you want to go 2.8. An awful ad but the price is right, worth seeing what kind of shape it is?

yeah i dont like the 2.8. i mean i loved how it sounded. and it will always be my car. ill prolly go to a 3.2l audi when i graduate from csuf. but for now i need a cheaper audi with a 1.8. cuz i do wanna upgrade later on when i do get money. i have been researching the 1.8T motor and wanted to know. do they share the diverter valve issue such as the MKIV turbo engines? i mostly find issues with the VW engine. do they share the same issues or is that something that was done to save money on the VW? any insight will help. i have approx 1 week to car shop maybe 2. any help will be nice. oh and the avant is nicer cuz more responsible ppl tend to buy it.
