Question timingbelt....???

Soo here's the question....how can you tell if your timingbelt needs replacement? And what happens if you don't catch it for some time??

Since this is such a common issue for these A4's I'm sure there's tons of experienced owners out there. SO I was just hoping to get a little feed back.

I've been working on pulling service records for my car and so far at 100k miles no timingbelt replacement....still got some leg work to do and hopefully I find it's been done.

Thanks!

It's called "valve salad" and it will happen if your timing system fails. These are interference engines and if you don't find the proof that yours has been done - soon - then do it. At 100k miles you're definitely on borrowed time.

"valve salad" ehh..........AWSOME. Why do I have a bad feeling....

Cars at 130k so hopefully in these last 30k the records will ease my worry.

How do you know when it's going bad....before salad??

you cant tell if it has been done or if its going bad, it just fails without any notice. it should be replaced every 60-80k so good luck on that

Default Change it now!!!

Change it right away. Its not usually the belt that fails its the tensioner.
I have had this happen to me ! You can hear a clacking sound as the tensioner looses tension on decelleration of motor. mine blew at low rpm so piston damage didnt occur but all 25 valves were bent to hell. At high rpm or load this will be like a bomp in you motor. Will cost bout 1200 to replace at dealer which i recommend for this as a few degress off in belt timing will destroy this motor. let them be responsible for this one! Check every 30 k miles

We need to get together soon to do it. Sometime next month if you're free ever.
