Timing Belt and Water Pump

I say buy the ultamate kit from ECS tuning and make the shop show u all the old parts the kit costs like 350 but has everything that you will need for a proper timing service it's an audi not a ford it will fail if only the belt and water pump are changed there are pulleys and a tensioner that needs to be changed as well. I wish you were closer I would do it for you no problem.

since a brand new water pump costs less than $100 for your car it sounds like "the garage" is trying to take YOU for a ride.
like previously stated you buy a whole timing kit for about $350 with everything included.

Most kits from reputable sources will include a new water pump. I'm not sure how much these kits cost for 2.8s but for 1.8t they're usually around $350. I'd just get a brand new one, this isn't the service you'll want to cheap out on. And don't disount your local members, I'm not sure how the crowd is in WI but here we have a few real cool guys who are willing to help out with a wrench. See if you have anyone like this near by, make a new friend and get this done cheaper than any shop can.

If you're gonna buy a kit I'd recommend blauparts.com. Their kit offers more for your money, IMO.
If you're not going to DIY, make sure you find someone (or a garage) who will install for you before you buy anything

If you are interested in Genuine Audi Parts at great pricing please give us a try.
Your timing kit would be $161.25 and water pump is $67.50 exchange. Again all our parts are Genuine Audi. Hope this helps ease the sting a bit.

Ever think that sometimes you get what you pay for? With the huge flood in overseas-produced crap that inundated eBay in the last few years, I'd think it's pretty dumb to trust eBay for what are probably the most critical service components on your engine's maintenance schedule.
And how the F was the jib done in two hours? Did you change water pump, thermostat, timing and accessory belts, idler roller, tensioner roller, and hydraulic tensioner, plus burp the cooling system? Our personal best is 3.5 hours start to finish and that's with two guys who are very familiar with the job.
