Timing belt?
i bought my 00' 1.8t about 2 months ago and it has about 136,000 mile on it and i dont know if the anyone before me replaced the timing belt my dad told me there is no way to check it but im hoping hes wrong and there is a way to look at it or find out if its bad or going bad or if its been replaced.

My car had that on it when I got it. The belt had been changed at 70k, so I figured it was about time to do it again. Be safe and DIY. Took me 10 hours - not hard just time consuming if you've never done it before.

Even if it was changed at 60k (which is unlikely most get it 70-110k the latter number being one quoted from the factory), you would still be in a good spot to be due soon, cause after 60k, it's like roulette.
Your dad is kinda right, you CAN check it, but it's not likely you'll find something wrong. Sometimes, if it's kinda loose, cracked or teeth are visibly missing, you know you have to park it immediately and get it done. Timing belt is under the black cover in the front of the engine. 2 clips and it's visible.
