A gt28r kit will cost you just shy of $4k

uhh how do you figure?

that seems ridiculously high for such a little turbo, i didn't even think gt28r was considered BT

Im sorry, i did the typical GT turbo, a gt28r is $800 not $1100+ so its just over $3k for all the hardware and proper fueling.

thanks cincy.

i was thinking about a gt28r as it seems like the next logical step up from a k04, which i worry might not satisfy me. are the 28r's an elim turbo just by default? they look like they use the stock exhaust manifold flange.

A 28r comes with a T25 housing and not a ko3. For some reason ATP makes a 28r elim for the transverse and not the longitude. If you go elim you have to go gt2x then up to a gtrs.

i dont get why the gt28r is called a gt28r, especially since there's a gt2860r. its really a gt2560r, it should just be called a gt25r, but since there's already a gt25r i guess they couldn't.

gt2252 elim version- gt2x
gt28rs (gt2860rs) elim version- gtrs
gt2871r elim version- gt71r or 71r elim

this is how i understand it. im sure cincy will correct me if im wrong

the elim turbo's use the same compressors as the real turbo's, but not the turbine housing. it is modified to fit the stock manifold. the gt2x has a 52mm compressor wheel w/ gt22 turbine, the gtrs a 60mm compressor wheel w/ gt28 turbine, and the 71r a 71mm compressor wheel w/ gt28 turbine. the gt2x/gt28r isn't much better than a k04. just better tq and holds power to redline. and the gt2x doesn't have that good of a reputation w/ longitudinal setups. if you want a real increase in power you should go with a gtrs or 71r elim

the elim version of the gt28r is the gt2x if im not mistaken. both are really a gt2560r, the gt2x just uses a different turbine housing in order to fit the stock location. You are incorrect, the gt2x is actually a gt2252 (no r since its not dbb).

i dont get why the gt28r is called a gt28r, especially since there's a gt2860r. it should just be called a gt25r The gt25r is a gt2554r and the gt28r is a gt2560r. Dont know either since they base turbos on turbine size and its a gt25 (53mm) and not a gt28 (53.8mm).

gt28r (gt2560r) elim version- gt2x gt2254
gt28rs (gt2860rs) elim version- gtrs
gt2871r elim version- gt71r or 71r elim

this is how i understand it. im sure cincy will correct me if im wrong I did

the elim turbo's use the same compressors as the real turbo's, but not the turbine housing. it is modified to fit the stock manifold. the gt2x has a 60mm compressor wheel w/ gt25 turbine ( you mean gt22), the gtrs a 60mm compressor wheel w/ gt28 turbine, and the 71r a 71mm compressor wheel w/ gt28 housing. the gt2x/gt28r isn't much better than a k04 (a gt2x is meant to replace a ko4-20 upgrade from a 225TT if not a little more, a gt28r is good for up to 300fwhp where a gt2x/22 is good for about 240-250fwhp). just better tq and holds power to redline (larger turbine). and the gt2x doesn't have that good of a reputation w/ longitudinal setups (stupid owners that dont let the turbo cool and overboost it. Its only good for 20-22psi tops). if you want a real increase in power you should go with a gtrs or 71r elim Depends on lag preferance and power output. The 2x is great for stock like spool, good hp and great tq numbers

thanx. i edited the post. wasn't too sure on the gt2x's internals

so really the only difference between the gt28r and the gt28rs is the trim of the turbine wheel is different. they're both 53mm but the 28r has a 62 trim, while the 28rs has a 76 trim. and the compressor wheel of the 28rs also has a .7mm bigger inducer but they're both 60mm exducer

All depends on which cover you get on the rs, it will change the inducer and trim

At thistime I have a local customer that is having a GT28rs Elim kit,Neuspeed Xtremeturbo inlet hose, Revo tune, 550cc injectors, Racetec FMIC, test pipe and down pipe installed onto his 2001.5 1.8tq manual. He plans on upgrading his clutch in a few weeks but I am sure if you want we could set up so that you could check out his car and see if this would be the setup for you. He bought all the parts from me and even had me setup the install for all the parts plus a few other things at Eurocode Tuning which is one of my vendors.

For turbo setups I offer
ATP GT28rs and GT2871r Elim kits
ATP fullGT28rs and GT2871 kits
ER GT2871r kit (hardware only)
Full-race.com package with GT3071, GT3076, GT35r or evena T3/67 if the customer wanted (offerd for both longitude and transverse 1.8t setups)

We can also get any Garrett turbo and offer forum discounts prices.

We alsojust added aA4 1.8t clutch package to our site that includes aSouth bendclutch kitand even a choice of 9, 11 or 16 lbsLWFWas an option.
