As I said, try spraying the cruise control switch with
RadioShack Contact Cleaner.

pphheewww...where do I begin:

Had OEM clutch replaced 96k
Oil pan - bottomed out in a pothole. Car is lowered anyway but I've seen A4's that arent dropped break their pan in a similar way
Wheel Bearings - LR, RR
Headlight switch - 2x
CV Joint - replaced whole axle instead
Radio - ERR error reading Cd changer - Removed and beat with a wooden bat.
Cooltant Temp Sensor
ICM's go too. I havent replaced mine.........not yet at least.

We've had the B5 since new, so if I can remember correctly this is what has gone wrong:

-Sunroof switch replaced x2
-Heads re-machined
-Front wheel bearings
-Rear wheel bearings x2
-Front bumper lower grilles gone
-Drivers rear door lower trim gone, drivers door trim falling off
-Water pump replaced
-Coolant hoses replaced
-New front control arm
-Cracked oil pan
-Mass airflow sensor x3
-Coil packs
-Thermostat
-Failed turn signals
I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

Current probs:
-Radio cuts out every now and then
-Ongoing clutch probs
-Leaky flex pipe joint and/or holes in the exhaust system (I have to jack the car up to look)
-Mechanic said it needs a valve adjustment or valve seals - it burns oil and smokes on startup in the winter
-Cruise control doesn't work
-Sunroof has a mind of its own

I still love it tho!

I purchased my car with 120,000 miles on it, now has 150,000 miles. I have had...

Belts, tensioners, and pulleys replaced
Water pump replaced,
Ball joints, cv joints replaced,
Lower trim is falling off,
Airbag light is on,
ABS light is on,
Interior lights don't turn on when I open the door,
Lines on the center console LCD,
Washer fluid leaks,
Blinker relay switch replaced,
Rear wheel bearings replaced,
Windshield washer motor and transmission replaced,
Thermostat replaced,
Cupholder doesn't pop out anymore,

I can't even remember what else has gone wrong... I do average 31mpg! 99 A4 1.8T
