SAP failure seems to be pretty common.

I think the most annoying thing on my B5 was the CRAP door trim on the bottom(lowers)!!![:@][:@][:@]. The clips would rust and the trim would bend out leaving you're car looking like S hit[:@]
That happened on both of mine and I always see B5's with some trim hanging off[:@]

I just bought a B5 on Wednesday. It has the brake/ABS lights permanently on. Im convinced the sunroof is possessed. (supernatural meaning).
The right rear bearings were just replaced, and the timing belt is ORIGINAL!

I have a serious problem with the steering, at highway speed it is SO over-sensitive that it is unsafe to take on interstate speeds.
-it is like trying to drive a go-cart at 90mph. (go-cart, not shifter kart as they're a blast to drive at triple digit speeds!)

I also have problems with the d door trim. -int. Panel and exterior handle trim are in bad repair; headliner/cloth door inserts (I have cloth interior as opposed to "Pleather" ) are about to fall off the car.

Btw, does anyone make/sell a Kevlar timing belt for the 1.8T?

These are all good to know things for me. It'll make it easier for me this Wednesday when I go to make a first/final look and assessment on a '00 B5 2.8Q. Biggest thing that stands out for me to look for would be the "tick". I'm assuming it's vale train issues? What's the normal fix/cost for something like this.
As in my previous used cars that I've bought, right from the start I will have the pressure flush/clean (not a simple drain/fill) of the engine oil, tranny, diffs, coolant and power steering. A pretty pricey start but I've found it's a great way to increase reliability and performance. From there on in, it's just normal maintenance schedules to conform to.
