Default Does this scan tool work

http://stores.ebay.com/mechanic-doctorMD

I want to get a scan tool but don't want to spend a ton of money just for problems.

I agree, our fuel is crap and if i want 93 octane i have to drive at least 30 miles. absolutely ridiculous. I agree with you on this though, Im going to fill the tank this weekend with 93 so we'll see if that puts a stop to the random misfire. Im most likely mapped for 93.

that is one massive gap. A chip should be .028. That should cure all misfires. Plus you need to run the proper octane otherwise you will get knock and cause the car to pull timing robbing you of both hp and mpg

thank you cincy, my measurement metric though. .8 inch would be the gapping of an absolute monster and my car would not even be driving. my measurement in metric about equals your in English units

So where does that leave us? Lol. Are you on .028/.026 in English units? (I dunno what the conversion is)

And what I meant by putting in 91 when you're mapped for 93 is that you still shouldn't get stuttering or misfires over the small loss of octane. This would just cause the knock sensor to pull timing as cincy stated. That is just an efficiency problem, not a mechanical. Do you have a VAG or know anyone that does? Only this way you will be able to see what your true octane really is and if you're knocking. Just because the sign on the pump says 93 doesn't meant that its detonating as 93. Many differences in octane ratings across regions. #'s are just to advertise (ie Citgo's "94" is really a 91 when it combusts)

yeah the plugs gapped about .028 inch. haha

I have read a lot about gas stations adding alcohol and slappin 93 on the sign, sucks that we have to worry about that, but I just have tried everything that im not sure what else is left. the difference between 91 and 93, I agree, is to minute to be cause a misfire. What do we know about the ICM. I did a test I found on the web to check that voltage is being conducted to each cylinder and it passed. also I do not have a VAG COM, this is why I need a rich girlfriend, but anyway had it scanned by generic at a shop, the code was just misfire in cylinder 4. Vac leak, fuel pressure is what's left. Vac leak I ruled out as I am at 18 inhg at idle and 20 inhg on decel which i am assuming is not bad for mile above sea. And fuel, I have purchased a 5.4 bar adjustable FPR and installing this weekend.

Tell me what you guys think increasing your octane? Toluene? Xylene? Is this mixing safe? and does it work?
